Location Compliance Certificates are required for flammable, oxidising, toxic or corrosive substances above certain quantities. To obtain a Location Compliance Certificate a business must demonstrate that the site complies with HSWA requirements specified in the regulations.
Trigger quantities for a Location Compliance Certificate are:
50 litres for any high-risk solvent or flammable liquid (in use)
250 litres in a storage situation
100 kg for any high-risk flammable gas (such as LPG, methane, etc).
The trigger quantities for chlorine for a Location Compliance Certificate are:
500 kg or litres when in storage
50 kg or litres when in use.
A location compliance certificate is issued for one year for explosive, flammable and oxidising substances. You can apply to WorkSafe to extend this to three years if you meet certain requirements.
A location compliance certificate is issued for up to 3 years if you have toxic and corrosive substances or less than 300kg of LPG.
